The Wall Street Journal Law Blog, in an article called Jobs Are Back (But Just Not In The Legal Industry), reports that while overall unemployment rates fell to 8.9 percent in February, the legal industry lost another 2,900 jobs. Not surprisingly, the unemployment problem among lawyers has spilled out into the blogosphere, where many law blawgs are lamenting the lack of jobs and the high student loans that lawyers can no longer pay. In Law School? Bag It, Bloggers Say, the ABA Journal recently wrote about the number of law students and recent law graduates who had taken to blogging to express their frustration and despair over the job situation.
What are your thoughts about the current job market for lawyers? Is the problem due to the bad economy, or is it the logical outcome from law schools flooding the market with new attorneys? What is the job market for lawyers like in your community? And have you considered whether to jailbreak your law practice in the current marketplace?
