Electronic Faxing Options for Lawyers - Reader's Poll of Best Efaxing Systems

From William Pfeifer, About.com GuideJanuary 13, 2011

As more and more lawyers move to paperless law offices and do more of their work remotely, the use of a good electronic faxing system grows increasingly important. While a traditional fax machine is tied to a physical location, electronic faxes can be sent and received by email or through an internet connection. By receiving faxes electronically, law offices can reduce the amount of paper they waste and can immediately move the faxed documents to their electronic storage system. More importantly, efaxing allows lawyers to have more freedom to work remotely in a more convenient setting than in their law offices.

The tough question is not whether to start using an electronic fax system; the question is which one to choose. To help answer that question, we decided to turn to the readers of the About.com Law Practice Management website and ask the question: What is the best electronic fax (e-faxing) system for lawyers to send faxes by email or over the internet? Cast your vote for the best electronic faxing system for lawyers in the Reader's Poll below:

This poll does not cover all of the electronic faxing systems available, but it does cover some of the more popular ones. If there is one we overlooked, please mention it in the comments section below. (1) Richard Jensen says:

I am simply amazed at the number of people and businesses still using paper fax machines and wanting papers faxed back and forth. That technology is 20 years old! Paperless faxes, scanning and converting to PDF and emailing are both preferrable to faxing.

(2) John Ryan says:

Desktop faxing is an essential piece of technology for a law office. But it’s not the method of delivery ie fax to email, using a physical machine etc. that is the key.
It is all the rest of the activity that goes with it ie automatically saving the completed faxes with the cover pages with the proof of service into the client file.
Notifying the sender when the fax has been completed or if there is a problem.
Automatically collecting the disbursement charge as a by-product of sending or receiving the fax. This is technology that saves huge amounts of staff time, reduces risk and pays for itself almost immediately.
