The iPad for Lawyers and the Legal Profession

From William Pfeifer, About.com GuideJuly 1, 2010

Many lawyers were among the purchasers of the first two million iPads sold during their first 60 days on the market, and iPad sales to attorneys continues to skyrocket. The iPad is proving valuable in courtrooms, during depositions, and when working on case files away from the office. Some lawyers are already using it as a substitute for a paper file in the courtroom, and the list of ways the iPad can be used by attorneys seems to grow every day.

Legal blogs (blawgs) focused on the iPad in law offices were created immediately upon its release, and the attorneys who use iPads have made great strides in adapting it for use in a legal setting. Some of the best blogs for iPad lawyers include:

Legal iPad. A blog providing some of the most in-depth and focused coverage of the iPad is Legal iPad, written by lawyer and author Nicole Black. Legal iPad provides application reviews, iPad technology recommendations, iPad news links, and specific posts related to using the iPad as a law practice tool.
Ipad Notebook. Ipad Notebook was created by Justin Kahn of the Kahn Law Firm. His blog reports iPad news and provides product reviews of law-related iPad applications.
Tablet Legal. For detailed reviews of iPad applications for lawyers, visit attorney Josh Barrett's blog Tablet Legal. Barrett provides step-by-step summaries of how he has tested and used various iPad applications in his own law practice.
ILawPad. Written by attorney Jim Schimanski, IPadLaw provides links to other blogs and articles discussing various applications and uses of the iPad in the law office, and then provides his own commentary and critique.
TheMacLawyer. TheMacLawyer by attorney Ben Stevens is one of the top websites for all things related to the use of Apple products in a law office. While his site focuses primarily on the use of mac computers by attorneys, he frequently posts about the law practice uses of iPads as well.

Are you an attorney using the iPad in your law practice? Do you think it will eventually replace your paper files, or even your computer? Tell us about your experience in the Comments section below.
